The Huron

Brooklyn, NY

Nestled along the East River at the northmost edge of Brooklyn, The Huron brings a new multifamily building and open space to the Greenpoint waterfront. SCAPE designed a public promenade that carves out space for an eco-cove, inviting visitors to step down and spend time near the water’s edge.

The cove is lined with ecological concrete units that stabilize the shore, regenerate intertidal habitat space, and create a buffer for storm surge and coastal flooding. Providing unobstructed views of Manhattan and Queens across the river, the promenade is steps from a local ferry stop and connected to nearly 20 acres of waterfront parks across the borough.

The park is complemented by a series of amenity terraces within a residential building designed by Morris Adjmi Architects. On the second floor, a playground and amenity space provides dramatic views of the city framed by lush native plantings and treehouse-inspired play features. Terraces atop the West and East towers extend this space further with flexible lawns, social seating, and barbeques for residents to come together.
