Louisiana's 2023 Coastal Master Plan, developed by SCAPE and the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA), recently received unanimous approval from the State Legislature.

"The CPRA estimates that the plan’s projects will reduce annual storm surge damage by about $11 billion per year by 2073," Buarick writes.

The three-year collaboration between SCAPE and CPRA aimed to help evaluate and plan the wide variety of projects across the coast to prepare for and respond to a climate-changed future. For the 2023 Coastal Master Plan, SCAPE developed an overarching visual communications strategy and graphic identity underpinning the document, as well as collateral for outreach and engagement—including model output maps, aerial regional views, explanatory diagrams, data visualizations, and fact sheets for each project, parish, community, and region.

Gov. John Bel Edwards called the plan's approval a "monumental day for coastal Louisiana," thanking lawmakers for their continued bipartisan support of the coastal program.
